They all had found their exiled and hidden skins. Thousands of Selkie women, descending to the shore alone, then realizing they were all together. And there was a buzz of sound all around them, a pull of the song of the sea. They derobbed from the domestic, from the only-human, and put on their skins, perfectly naked, perfectly whole. Step by step, in unison they walked out into the sea, singing, singing, singing. The water over their heads, they became weightless and held in the womb of the Great Mother once again. All that was left was joy, was play, was absolute freedom. They had returned together.
